Turmalin caught the eye of Malta-based British engineer Alan Pickering in 1980. It took him 3 months to sail her back from Hong Kong to Malta where he was about to meet his future wife Lyn Symonds, onboard. Lyn, from Australia had also developed a love of boats and a nautical lifestyle. Their first voyage together was crossing the Atlantic, to Antigua where they intended to charter. However they were approached by a travel company to run Senoiure. They then joined Nordwind in 1986 for an Italian owner. A decade of professional chartering took them to such exotic locations as the Carribean, Virgin Islands, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Greece & Turkey.
